Fennel is not a real tuber, but a bulb. Its shape varies from flat to bulbous. Fennel is the thickened stalk of the fennel plant.
The flavour is aniseed-like, a little sweet, but pungent. Heat softens the flavour of fennel. Our fennel comes from southern Spain and Italy (Puglia).
